A lightweight solution on an existing Pre-Select Interview Management to configure, schedule, and execute both in-person and virtual interviews, all on one platform.

Project Overview

Flo Recruit’s Pre-Select Interview Management platform helps law schools, employers, and students manage legal recruiting programs within a single, connected workflow. As hiring programs evolved to include both virtual and in-person formats, the team expanded the existing platform to support a more flexible interview experience.

The goal was to create a lightweight solution that allowed schools and employers to configure, schedule, and manage both in-person and virtual interviews within the same system. This included new program settings, employer interview type preferences, custom interview locations, updated scheduling tools, enhanced reporting tables, live dashboards, and clearer email notifications.

Design Challenge

During my first 30 days at Flo Recruit, I was tasked with designing a quick solution to support in-person interviews within the existing Pre-Select Interview Management platform. The talent recruiting spacing was changing, and there was a need: after years of virtual-first recruiting, law schools and employers were beginning to return to in-person interview formats, creating new needs the platform did not yet support.

The timeline was tight. Flo Recruit had an upcoming law school summit within the same month with several top law schools, and Product wanted a prototype ready to introduce the concept, gather feedback, and prepare for the next recruiting season.

The challenge was to extend an interview management experience originally optimized for virtual interviews to support in-person interviews as well. My goal was to quickly understand the problem space and create a prototype that could validate the direction with customers and internal stakeholders.

Discovery & Research

I began by quickly building context on the legal recruiting industry, Flo Recruit’s ecosystem, and the existing Pre-Select Interview Management workflows. Since I knew a prototype was needed ahead of the upcoming law school summit, I focused my discovery on identifying the key gaps between the current virtual interview experience and the operational needs of in-person recruiting.

I reviewed the current workflows with the team and mapped how interviews were scheduled and managed. This helped clarify where the existing platform could be extended, where new states or actions were needed, and what needed to be validated with law school stakeholders during the summit.

Strategy

The strategy was to expand in-person interview support without creating a separate workflow or overcomplicating the existing one.

A key product decision was to keep the experience flexible and admin-controlled. Schools could choose whether to allow employers to specify an interview type preference, while admins retained the ability to assign or adjust interview formats later in the scheduling process. This balanced employer input with the needs of schools managing complex recruiting events.

Solution

After collaborating closely with Product and Engineering, we translated the strategy into targeted updates across event setup, scheduling, visibility, and communications. The solution enabled schools to manage virtual and in-person interviews in a single, connected experience while giving admins the flexibility to configure interview formats to meet each program’s needs.

Results

  • Even with a tight deadline, we successfully put together a prototype incorporating the new updates in time for our law school summit.

  • Law schools were very pleased, which resulted in 2 law schools signing a contract with Flo Recruit.

  • Shortly after the summit, we incorporated most of the feedback, starting with suggestions that would benefit everyone, and successfully launched the new updates in Q1 2024.
